Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi’s “Just Look Up” Wins Society of Composers and Lyricists Award

Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi have been recognized for their song in the film, Don’t Look Up. This film won an Society of Composers and Lyricists Award for outstanding original song for a comedy or musical visual media production.
The film recently shared that they won an award for “Just Look Up” at the SCL Awards. The premier organization for composers and songwriters working in visual media hosts this ceremony. This award ceremony celebrates excellence and innovation in music for visual media. This is such a great honor since the voting party is premier composers and songwriters. The use of “Just Look Up” was perfect in the satire film.
Don’t Look Up follows a PH.D candidate and her professor after their discovery of a comet. They find that the comet is on path to collide with the earth in six months. The characters must warn people about this comet since the collision would cause a planet-wide extinction. The storyline follows the two through the struggle of convincing the U.S.A. president and civilians that the comet is real. The satire aspect is definitely prevalent in this film because people don’t believe the scientists.
“Just Look Up” represents propaganda in the film since the lyrics urge listeners to look into the sky at visible comet. Grande and Kid Cudi’s characters, Riley Bina and DJ Chello perform “Just Look Up” in the film. In the beginning of the film, the main characters explain the comet to Bina before their talk show appearance.
What Else is Don’t Look Up Nominated For?
Fans of The Voice remember this dynamic duo taking to the stage with this song during the finale. Kid Cudi joined the popstar on stage to sing the song from the newly released film. Don’t Look Up originally premiered in limited theaters on December 10, 2021. Reports state that this satire film made 1.5 million dollars in the box office. On December 24, this film went straight to Netflix.
This film has become very popular this award season, they’ve received numerous nominations. Some of their biggest nominations are for: four Academy Awards, four BAFTA awards, six Critic’s Choice Awards, and more. Fans of Grande are disappointed that this film wasn’t nominated for best song at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony.
Grande fans shared their love for her in the comments of Don’t Look Up‘s post. The pop star’s name has recently been popular on Twitter. Her fans have tirelessly gotten her name to trend in an attempt to get her attention. Grande abruptly shut down her Twitter account on December 24 and has not returned. There has been no explanation behind Grande’s Twitter account, even though she’s been active on Instagram. We don’t know if her Twitter account closing has anything to do with Don’t Look Up‘s release. It may just be a coincidence that this occurred on the same day as the film’s release.
