Got Talent judge Simon Cowell apparently hasn’t used a cell phone for many years now, and his longtime partner Lauren Silverman says it has had a “really, really positive” effect on his state of mind.
Simon Cowell Hasn’t Used a Cell Phone in Years
Simon Cowell’s partner Lauren Silverman recently appeared on This Morning, where she shared that Cowell “ditched his phone about eight years ago.” It’s true that in 2018, Cowell told The Mail that he hadn’t used his phone for 10 months.
“Simon was actually ahead of the curve with all this. The difference that it has made on him in a positive way, it’s been extraordinary,” Silverman said, according to People. “In terms of just reducing those distractions and the noise and that feeling — that pull that we all inevitably have when you’ve got a phone sitting next to you which is constantly just going off and there’s notifications coming in and there’s all kinds of things that are pulling you into that.”
Silverman added of Cowell’s phone-free lifestyle, “I think by not having it, it has just eliminated all that for him, which has been really, really positive.”
She also spoke about the phone habits of her and Cowell’s 12-year-old son Eric. She explained that he has a “brick phone,” adding, “It’s completely shut down, so he can text and WhatsApp but that’s it.”

Cowell Has Compared Cell Phones to Toasters
Years after cutting down on cell phone usage, Cowell said in an interview with YouTuber Evan Carmichael that he hates the devices, adding that he has one that frequently sits unused his car.
“I think they’re boring,” Cowell said. “For me, I think it’s like having a toaster with you all the time. It’s like, it’s a toaster, and a phone is just as boring. It’s like, toast is nice and occasionally a telephone call is nice, but not all the bloody time.”
The music mogul said he realized he was “happier” when he wasn’t on his phone, and he “started to dread” using it. As he said, “Then one day I thought I’d lost it, and it’s like, ‘Oh God, I’ve lost my life.’ And it’s like, ‘Oh stop being so dramatic. It’s a stupid telephone.’ I don’t use 99 percent of the things on it.”
