‘American Idol’s Ratings Are Down In Week Two

ABC/Eric Liebowitz

Reading Time: 1 minutes

American Idol premiered last Sunday with a decent share in the ratings with a 2.7 share, or 11.8 million viewers. They went down slightly on Monday night because they were going against the juggernaut of The Voice. But not too bad. However, last night American Idol’s ratings took a pounding.

They only got a 1.8 share, or approximately 7.7 million. We see that in our videos as well and the ones on American Idol’s YouTube. We’ll see how well they do tonight but going up against The Voice is going to be tough. Though we are enjoying the show, people are either not watching the way ABC hoped or they are tuning in to different shows. It doesn’t help that Sunday they had to deal with March madness basketball.

So, we’ll see how it does tonight. It’s a challenge for a new show, even one with an illustrious past as American Idol, to gain an audience. People don’t like changing their viewing habits and are generally wary of adopting a show that’s come back from the dead. We hope they knock it out of the park.
