Grace Kinstler just teased a sneak peek of a brand new song that she has been working on. The American Idol Top 3 finalist received some constructive criticism after her performance of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” in the competition. Judge Katy Perry wanted Grace to discover what kind of artist she really is. Grace has been thinking about Perry’s advice and channeled that energy into her original song.

Perry had given Grace advice to “lock into more of those iconic songs.” Grace is a powerhouse vocalist and did perform songs from all genres during Season 19 of American Idol. Perry got very deep with her criticism during the Top 12 as the competition was really heating up. She felt like “Happy” did not fit the mold of a big iconic song.
“I’m just thinking about what kind of record you’re going to make after American Idol,” Perry said. “I know it’s going to sound good but who are you as an artist? You can sing anything but what are you going to say?”
At the time, Perry’s critique was confusing to some. In the end, it looks like the criticism was actually helpful for Grace. In the clip posted on social media, Grace shared the words of advice Perry gave her on American Idol. Then, she shared the demo of her brand new song. It’s full of huge notes, vocal runs, and sounds like it could be the next iconic song. So far, there is no word on when the song will be released but her fans are patiently waiting.
Grace can obviously sing the phonebook because her range is unmatched. It’s one of the many reasons why she was a frontrunner on American Idol right from her audition. Grace made the move to Los Angeles after competing on the show. She shared in June that she was working on new music. She revealed in an interview in July that she already had most of the songs on her debut album written.
“I’m also excited to release my original stuff and just show the world this is who I am as an artist,” she said. “This is what I have to say. And I was so grateful to Idol for giving me the platform and the audience to do that with. So I’m excited.”
