‘American Idol’ Winner Maddie Poppe Discusses The Pressures Of Winning
Reading Time: 2 minutes
We were all excited a few weeks ago when Iowa’s own Maddie Poppe won American Idol. It was a well deserved victory. But then the question that comes after any such win: What now? Apparently, this small town girl has been run ragged. She’s really feeling the pressure now. She now understands why people like Britney Spears have meltdowns.
In a way the industry is rooting against you. There is a lot of prejudice against talent competition winners, like they aren’t legitimate because they won a game show or something. So, the pressure is really on to prove yourself. Not to mention that going from an unknown only a few months ago to the national stage is tough for someone so young. She said,
“Wow, it hasn’t been that long has it? It’s all kind of a whirlwind. I’ve been meeting with the label. We’ve been recording and doing interviews. It’s been nonstop. It so overwhelming, honestly, and you just get caught up and need a break and don’t want to talk to anybody. I’m beginning to understand more and more why this is hard for people — to do the Hollywood thing. Basically, I understand why Britney Spears shaved her head.”
Being famous seems like a dream to many but it can be a total nightmare. Your privacy is gone, your freedom is gone, and you constantly have to fight to keep your head above water. We know Maddie will be ok. She’s got a good support system and, of course, Caleb Lee Hutchinson to help her. Hang in there, girl and please don’t shave off those lovely blond locks.
