This past weekend marked 21 years since American Idol Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood released her debut single, “Inside Your Heaven.” Runner-up Bo Bice also released his own version of the song after the show.
Carrie Underwood’s Debut Single Turns 21
A few weeks after Carrie Underwood was crowned the winner of American Idol Season 4 in 2005, she and runner-up Bo Bice each released their own version of the song “Inside Your Heaven,” which was written by Andreas Carlsson, Pelle Nylén, and Savan Kotecha, and produced by Desmond Child.
According to American Songwriter, Underwood’s version received mixed reviews from critics, but it still debuted at the top of the Hot 100 chart. Meanwhile, Bice’s version peaked at No. 2 on the chart. “Inside Your Heaven” was later featured on Underwood’s debut album Some Hearts, released in November of that same year.
The single also earned Underwood Billboard Music Awards for both “Top-Selling Country Single of the Year” and “Top-Selling Hot 100 Song of the Year.” In the second category, Underwood once again beat out Bice’s version of the song.
Carrie Underwood has had a massively successful career. American Songwriter points out that she is officially the highest-certified female country artist of all time. Her debut album Some Hearts was certified platinum nine times.
“Accomplishments like this are more than I would have ever dared to dream of when I was starting out,” Underwood said last year following the announcement. “I owe everything to the fans, who have literally voted for me from the beginning of my career and have showed up and given me so much love for over 20 years. I feel truly blessed.”
Since appearing on American Idol, Underwood has released nine studio albums and won eight Grammys. She just finished her second season as a judge on Idol, replacing longtime panelist Katy Perry.
