America’s Got Talent is set to return for the second episode of Season 21 on Tuesday, June 9. Ahead of the next episode, the show released a magicians audition early. Here’s everything that happens in the early released audition.
Magician Studied With Previous AGT Winner
21 year old magician Geno Ploeger took the America’s Got Talent stage with poise, explaining that he’s been doing magic since he was 5 years old. When he was small, he watched Mat Franco’s AGT season and was inspired to learn the act himself. This lead to him even interning for Franco himself!
When asked about if he thought he’d win the series, Geno explained that anything is possible on the AGT stage. He then, began his act, where he predicted the card Simon Cowell would choose.
Geno then told Simon Cowell to write down something that inspired him. Of course, Cowell wrote “myself.” From there, Geno began telling his story of magic on AGT, branching from watching Franco’s season, how he started doing magic, and more. As he continued telling the story, the cards continued to link to his story.
To end off the act, he made the letters A, G, T appear as well as the season number. He then made Cowell’s card appear out of thin air. Immediately after the performance, Geno was seen getting emotional over his performance.
Howie Mandel Wants Him to be Himself
The only judge that wasn’t completely sold on Geno’s act was comedian Howie Mandel. During the judge reactions, he admitted that the 21 year old was so “professional and exciting.”
“The first time I saw somebody tell a story with cards was Mat Franco,” Mandel said. “I would say, if you’re lucky enough to come back do something that is so you and not something reminiscent of someone else.”
Right away, Mel B got defensive saying that Geno’s act was amazing and he deserved to be there. Cowell also disagreed with Mandel saying that Geno was completely different. The head judge complimented Geno’s enthusiasm and love for magic.
“You have put the work in which is why you really deserve to be here,” Cowell said. “However, everything is subjective.”
From there, Geno was voted into the next round of America’s Got Talent Season 21. Be sure to tune into AGT on Tuesday, June 9 so you don’t miss a minute of this year’s competition.
