Kelly Clarkson Speaks About The Horror That is ‘From Justin To Kelly”

20TH CENTURY FOX/ AA Film Archive

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Some of you younger readers might not remember what a cultural phenomenon American Idol was when it was first on. EVERYONE watched the show and Kelly Clarkson’s original win in 2002 made front page news all over the country. So, Hollywood being what it is, and wanting to squeeze every last dime out of something, they decided to make a movie called From Justin to Kelly and it was an abomination. Now, Kelly speaks about her relationship to that movie 16 years later.

She won’t let her kids watch it. Not because it’s naughty or scandalous, of course, but rather because it is such a stink bomb. She told Rolling Stone when asked about if she lets her kids watch it she said,

“Oh, God, no! It’s one of my nanny’s favorite movies – and I’m like, “I swear to God, I’ll fire you.” I was contractually obligated [to make it]. I didn’t want to. I show them cool stuff like, you know, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter.”

Wow. Threatening to fire a nanny over a movie seems a little harsh, right? Only people who haven’t seen it would say that. I saw it against my will. A friend, who was a big fan of the show, wanted to watch it and it was like having your head smashed with a cinderblock. The movie starred Kelly and American Idol runner up Justin Guarini as two young people falling for each other in Ft. Lauderdale during Spring Break. Why, yes it is a musical. The problem is, besides the bad writing and directing, is that Kelly and Justin are singers not actors. It made my eyeballs bleed. I’m glad she isn’t letting her kids see it. I would call child protective services.
