Lionel Richie is once again making national headlines due to his health. The American Idol judge is currently hospitalized amid his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind and Fire.
Lionel Richie Checks Himself into Hospital
On Saturday, August 29, TMZ broke the news that Richie checked himself into the ICU out of caution shortly after his concert in St. Louis, Missouri. According to CBS News, Richie “appeared at one point to lean on a piano for support.” He then, allegedly, asked his team to bring him a chair while performing his final song of the night, “All Night Long.”
After this show, he checked himself into a local hospital to have some tests done. TMZ revealed that Richie is being cautious about his health and doctors at the time were looking into dehydration as the cause of the issues. Richie reportedly was looking to be discharged on Tuesday, September 1.
This Isn’t His First Hospitalization on The Tour
In June, Richie made national headlines for falling ill onstage during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. In this instance, the singer told the crowd he felt “dizzy” and “strange” and cut the show short. Paramedics then met him backstage and took him to hospital by ambulance.
“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he said (reported via the Star Tribune).
After this hospitalization, concert performers Earth, Wind, and Fire commented on Richie’s health concern. The band’s drummer John Paris, explained that Richie showed no signs of being ill before the show. The drummer then stated Richie was “a little dehydrated.”
Richie returned to the Sing Along All Night Tour with Earth, Wind and Fire soon after his first hospitalization. He even returned with a cheeky comment about the hospitalization.
“I had you worried there for a minute, huh? You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing,” he said in Pittsburgh, PA.
Two shows had been postponed due to his health, as Richie was advised by doctors to “to rest and return to full health” before performing again. This story is ongoing, check back to see if any updates have been given.
