Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro could be making a major change for Season 2, as production moves away from Australia and into Los Angeles. Season 1 of the show premiered earlier this year as a search for a new pro dancer on the celebrity ballroom competition.
DWTS: The Next Pro Could Move to Los Angeles
The first season of DWTS: The Next Pro was filmed in Australia, as Adele Zaikman was crowned the winner and joined the roster of pros for Season 35 of the show. According to Deadline, BBC Studios is eyeing a move in production to Los Angeles for the show’s second season.
The company is reportedly in Phase 2 of the application process for a California tax credit. This would move the ABC show’s spinoff to the same filming location as the main competition, which has filmed all 35 seasons in Los Angeles. According to sources, the show has still not officially been renewed for a second season.
“It’s definitely something we’ll talk about with the network,” DWTS executive producer Conrad Green said of a possible renewal last month. “I mean, you’ve got to try and get the balance right that you don’t have so much churn that you’re changing people for the sake of changing people.”
Green added that they “might tweak” the show if it does return, explaining, “You learn things from when you do a season.” He emphasized that “we never want to stop finding great people.”
Adele Zaikman was named the winner of DWTS: The Next Pro earlier this season, meaning she got to join the main show as a pro dancer for Season 35, which is currently airing. Zaikman was paired with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Conner Leavitt.
Unfortunately, Zaikman and Leavitt were eliminated from the competition in the first week, after performing a salsa to “Whoomp! There It Is!” by Tag Team. However, Zaikman has remained on the show to participate in group dances with her fellow pros. She will also be joining the show’s live tour next year.
