The Voice has shared another early release Blind Audition from Monday’s Season 29 premiere, featuring an artist named Lucas West. His performance of “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John turned two coaches’ chairs.
Artist Impresses in The Voice Early Release Audition
This season of The Voice is subtitled Battle of Champions, as veteran coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend will be competing against each other. In a sneak peek from the premiere, an artist named Lucas West performs a Blind Audition.
Lucas played the keyboard while singing “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John. Only a few seconds into his performance, Levine pressed the button to turn his chair and try to get Lucas on his team this season. Not long after that, Legend also chose to turn around.
Levine told Lucas that he was “blown away by how different you are,” adding, “That makes me want to fight super hard to have you on my team.”
When asked if he plays any other instruments, Lucas shared that he plays the trombone. Legend pointed out that he “had a trombone solo in one of my Christmas songs.” His fellow coaches poked fun at him for trying to make the connection.
Season 29 of The Voice will premiere on Monday, February 23, at 9/8c on NBC, streaming the next day on Peacock. This season features three coaches instead of the usual four, as Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend compete against each other.
Battle of Champions will also feature some interesting format changes compared to previous seasons. That includes an All-Star Showdown, in which past contestants will return to compete in sing-offs. The coach with the most sing-off wins will have a second Season 29 artist in the finale.
The returning artists for this new round include Girl Named Tom, Jake Hoot, Javier Colon, Jordan Smith, Maelyn Jarmon, and Renzo. Are you excited for the new season of The Voice? Let us know in the comments below.
