The Masked Singer creator Wonwoo Park signed a first-look development deal to bring another Korean-based competition series to the United States. This first-look deal was announced by Allison Wallach, Executive Vice President, Head of FOX Alternative Entertainment, and Park.
Lotto Singer is Exactly What it Sounds Like… If You Guess the Six Winners of the Show Correctly You Win the Lottery
With this deal, Park will bring the Korean singing competition, Lotto Singer to American viewers. Lotto Singer is a show that gathers 45 singers in all genres to compete for the big prize. Before the singers take to the stage, the audience guesses who will win the show. The audience members who correctly guess the six selected winners will get a cash prize at the end of the series. This show is different from the competitions we normally see because there are no eliminations until the last episode, and of course, the audience has a chance to win as well.
On top of fans not knowing who won, audience and production crew will also be in the dark until the last episode. This series was created by Park, and from Seoul Broadcasting System’s content hub FormatEast. This series aired on MBN last year and gathered the network’s highest viewer ratings.
“Thanks to the creative genius and vision of Wonwoo Park, the success of THE MASKED SINGER and the impact it has had on FOX and numerous other networks throughout the world cannot be understated,” said Wallach. “Wonwoo’s ability to identify and develop concepts that are unique in premise and universal in appeal makes him one of the most innovative producers in the business, and we are excited to see where this partnership will take us.”
Wallach expects this series to do well considering K-POP singers are massively popular worldwide. The Masked Singer has been a record-breaking series for FOX, so it doesn’t surprise me that they want to bring another show on air by Park. Just from the description, Lotto Singer sounds like an addicting series.
Why This Upcoming Series is Perfect for Fans of The Masked Singer
It’s not a secret at all that fans of this show are addicted to guessing which celebrity is behind the mask! Although this series is loved by many, there are still complaints about its format. The biggest complaint is that fans cannot vote during or after shows. This is honestly where the series is lacking. The Masked Singer is pre-recorded, so live voting isn’t apart of it’s format.
Lotto Singer will definitely solve that problem. It feels like the format of Lotto Singer allows the audience to feel like they are part of the celebrity panel on The Masked Singer. You’re able to put in your vote and then it is stored away until eliminations come about. The people who guess the winners correctly will receive a cash prize. It can’t get much better than that!
FAE and Park’s Seoul-based production company, dI turn, are currently developing the international format for Lotto Singer. There is not yet an anticipated premiere date.
