Makayla Phillips Busts Out Rapping Skills in Hot New Video

Makayla Phillips is more than just a talented singer. The American Idol star is a total boss when it comes to rapping, which she shows off in her new music video for “Renegade Jane.” The 18-year-old is such a vibe in this music video complete with amazing fashion choices and a live snake!
‘American Idol’ alum Makayla Phillips Completely Slays ‘Renegade Jane’ Music Video
Makayla starts off the video making her presence known with the lyrics “Imma do it by my myself/I’m fine with it.” The fashion is a huge part of what makes the music video so great. We get to see all the different sides of Makayla from her long fur coat and sunglasses to her black ensemble with a diamond collar.
Did she give anybody else Demi Lovato vibes with her long black hair? Coincidentally, Makayla performed a Lovato song when she returned for the Season 19 comeback episode of American Idol a few weeks ago. Though she did not earn a spot back on the show, it seems like she is doing just fine with the release of this music video shortly after.
Makayla channeled her inner Britney Spears by incorporating a live snake into her look. The snake sat around her neck proving once again that Makayla is the coolest teenager on the planet. She posted several behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot including one with her American Idol bestie Olivia Ximines.
This song is the perfect breakup anthem or hot girl summer anthem depending on how you resonate with it.
“I’m good on my own/I don’t give a f*ck” Makayla sings as she flashes the middle finger to the camera. Her Ariana Grande-style whistle tones complete the song that has been getting rave reviews from fans in the comments section.
“The Whistle! The RAP! The attitude! The SWAG! The wardrobe! SLAYed!” one fan wrote in a YouTube comment and we couldn’t agree more.
Makayla Promises Fans that More Projects Are in the Works
On Instagram, Makayla promised her fans that “Renegade Jane” is the first of many projects to come.
“This song was SO much fun to write, produce, etc. I have an amazing team, and I can’t wait to do more and more with them” she wrote.
She previously made it to the Top 11 on Season 18 of American Idol after earning Heidi Klum’s ‘AGT’ Golden Buzzer in 2018. Fans of ‘AGT’ winner Kodi Lee also have Makayla to thank for introducing him to the world. The pair are really good friends and duet partners that have supported each other throughout their young music careers.
