16-Year-Old Wows The Judges but His Grandmother Steals The Show

Donel Mangena surprised the judges on ‘The Voice UK’ when he sang his version of “Cold Water” by Justin Bieber. The young singer is only 16-years-old but has such a powerful voice and stage presence. He even got Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am to fight over him. Donel eventually got overshadowed by his grandma who ran to the stage and started dancing after he got four-chair turns. Donel’s Grandmother Hits The Stage
A couple of seconds into singing Donel automatically has the audience applauding his amazing voice. The judges are also impressed as Will.i.am is the first to turn his chair followed by Jennifer Hudson. Donel decides to start singing the famous Justin Bieber song in the language of Zimbabwe. He does this to pay tribute to his grandma since he lived there with her for a year. His Grandma Nita told the cameras backstage, “I love my grandson, he’s so polite and well behaved, he’s doing well at school.”

Eventually, all four judges turn their chairs for Donel and soon he got a standing ovation from the entire room. His family is seen celebrating backstage and Nita runs to the stage to hug her grandson. She starts dancing and everyone goes crazy at her amazing dance moves. Judge Olly Murs says “I love this woman, I want her on my team.”
‘The Voice’ Judges Fight For Donel
Jennifer Hudson tells him that she wants him on her team and is ready to fistfight for him. But Will.i.am was not ready to give up the chance to coach Donel either, “You hit my heart. Everyone’s gonna do their pitch they’re gonna promise you a lot of things for this show and this show only. You pick me you got me for however long you want me in your life.”

Donel ended up choosing Will.i.am as his coach for the season. Leaving the other three judges disappointed. The music producer even went backstage with Donel because he wanted to meet his grandma after she took over the stage dancing. “There’s awesome there’s amazing and then there’s Donel,” says Will.
Donel Mangena ended up making it all the way to the finals of ‘The Voice UK’ but was a runner up to winner Ruti Olajugbagbe.
