Jenn Affleck for 'Dancing With the Stars' and Hannah Harper for 'American Idol'

The new season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has fans talking, and part of that conversation relates to American Idol Season 24 winner Hannah Harper. Some viewers noticed a similarity between cast member Jen Affleck’s song “Pink Back” and a song of the same name by Harper.

Did Jen Affleck Copy Hannah Harper’s Song ‘Pink Back’?

During Season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on Hulu, Jen Affleck shared a song she was working on called “Pink Back,” relating to her postpartum experience. She explained that the concept was inspired by flamingos, who temporarily lose their pink color after giving birth before getting it back.

Fans on social media have pointed out that the song’s title, as well as the concept, is identical to a song shared by American Idol Season 24 winner Hannah Harper earlier this year. According to a Reddit post, a clip of Harper performing the song was posted in March.

A TikTok video which has over 18,000 likes as of this writing shows Affleck and Harper’s explanation of the songs back to back. Affleck even mentions that the song is about getting her “sparkle back,” and one of the lyrics in Harper’s song uses the word “sparkle.”

What Do Fans Think About the Similarities?

In a thread discussing the two songs on the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Reddit, fans weighed in on whether Affleck can be accused of copying Harper’s song idea. Some commenters pointed out that the concept of getting one’s “pink back” existed before both songs.

“The meaning is not some niche, unique thing,” reads the top comment. “Every momfluencer has referenced flamingos in regard to postpartum. There’s nothing to steal.”

Another user pointed out that social media content creator Lindsey Gurk started a lifestyle brand called Get Your Pink Back in 2022. As someone else wrote, “Oh come on multiple influencers have used the concept, and the songs don’t sound the same.”
