During the very first live show of the season, Ryan Seacrest announced that Pike had returned home and would no longer be competing. This was devastating for fans of the 20-year-old early standout who had impressed the judges with his cover of “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon the night before.
Pike did post a set of photos from back at home before Monday’s episode of American Idol. Many were wondering why he had already returned home before his next performance. Everything up until this point had been pre-recorded and contestants were given strict COVID safety protocols while they film the show in California.
Many speculated that it was actually the trip home that forced him to leave the show as it violated the Covid-19 protocols. Others think he may have been offered a record deal. Unfortunately, Pike’s vague comment does little to quell the rumors.
Pike’s Fellow ‘Idol’ Contestants Sent Him Well Wishes on Instagram
After breaking his silence on Instagram, Pike’s fellow Season 19 American Idol contestants commented on his post to wish him well. This group of contestants is very tight-knit and understand that it’s not easy being away from their family and friends during the pandemic.
Eliminated contestant Alanis Sophia wrote, “wish you the best of luck in everything you do.”
“You are so special Wyatt- JUST THE BEGINNING BABY!!!! Can’t wait to see you soon. You are A GEM in every since of the word” Madison Watkins wrote.
“So much love for you Wyatt!!! You are going to do AMAZING things; I cannot wait to watch it all unfold for you!!” Grace Kinstler said.
“I love you and miss you so much!!!! So excited for your future” Cassandra Coleman, Pike’s duet partner during the Duets Challenge said.
Ever since Pike’s last performance, his audition video has been blowing up with views over on American Idol’s YouTube channel. We wouldn’t be surprised if it hit 1 million views by the end of the month with fans wondering what really happened to cause him to drop out.

The contestants were hit with a major twist as ten of the Season 18 contestants will be returning for a chance to fight their way back onto the show. Expect to see this all go down during the April 19 episode at 8 p.m. ET.
