What to Expect from New Competition Show ‘The Ultimate Surfer’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
There’s a new kind of talent show headed to our TV screens this summer, called The Ultimate Surfer. The ABC series will include a cast of skilled surfers competing for the title of “The Ultimate.” The show will also feature famous surfer Kelly Slater as a consultant and correspondent.
What is ‘The Ultimate Surfer’ All About?
The show will feature 14 surfers between the ages of 22 and 34, who will live and compete at the World Surf League’s Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California. The ranch is home to Slater’s wave technology, which the contestants will use during the competition.
The surfers will compete in individual challenges, as well as on teams. Following weekly eliminations, there will be two men and two women as finalists who will end the show competing for the male and female titles of Ultimate Surfer. The winners will have a chance to compete on the WSL Championship Tour.
The Ultimate Surfer will be hosted by former NFL star Jesse Palmer, with sports anchors Erin Coscarelli and Joe Turpel as commentators. Unsurprisingly, the contestants all hail from Florida, Hawaii, and California — with one surfer from Puerto Rico.

When Does the Show Premiere?
The Ultimate Surfer will air on Monday and Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, with a two-night premiere on Monday, August 23, and Tuesday, August 24, 2021. The show will debut after Bachelor in Paradise.
Palmer tweeted his excitement about hosting the new show on Thursday, writing, “Come join us on Kelly’s surf ranch and watch 14 incredible male and female surfers duke it out for a chance to compete on the #WSL World Tour. Can’t wait for you guys to see this!!!”
With so many shows focusing on singing and dancing, we’re excited to watch a competition that puts athletes front and center. Mark your calendars for this new summer show.
