AGT Winner Nene Royal Performs with Avenged Sevenfold
Avenged Sevenfold is currently on an international tour, and they stopped in Singapore earlier this week. Last month, it was announced that AGT Season 21 winner Nene Royal would be joining the group for their show at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
During her opening set, Nene reportedly performed five cover songs, including “Hysteria” by Muse, “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden, and “Zombie” by The Cranberries — all of which she famously performed on AGT. She also performed “Killing in the Name” by Rage Against the Machine and “I-E-A-I-A-I-O” by System of a Down.
Later in the concert, Nene also joined Avenged Sevenfold on stage to perform their songs “Bat Country” and “Holy Confessions.” This isn’t her first time sharing the stage with an iconic band, as she got to perform with Linkin Park during the AGT season finale last month.
“The managers in Singapore text me: ‘Oh, I hear you wanna play with Avenged Sevenfold?’” Nene Royal told Metal Hammer of how her gig with the band came about. “I was like, ‘Yeah!’ They said, ‘Well, Avenged Sevenfold want you to support them.’ They asked for me, ‘Do you wanna do it?’, and I was like, ‘Yeah!’”
She admitted that she was both excited and nervous, saying, “I’m going to play in front of how many? 40,000!” She added of the amazing opportunity to play with one of her favorite bands, “Dreams come true. Incredible.”
Nene, who is originally from Thailand, wowed the judges in her AGT audition and later earned a Golden Buzzer from Mel B during the Season 21 Semifinals, sending her straight to the finale. America loved her so much, they voted for her to be named the winner.
