Reading Time: 2 minutes
If you’re looking for new music to get you in the holiday spirit, American Idol alum Johanna Jonas has the perfect thing for you. Johanna is releasing a new EP of original Christmas songs.
You might remember Johanna from Season 17 of the ABC show. Her boyfriend (now husband) Matt showed up to surprise her with a marriage proposal during Hollywood Week, making judge Katy Perry cry.
‘American Idol’s Johanna Jones Is Releasing A Christmas EP
Johanna’s new album is called It’s Christmastime, and features four original Christmas songs, as well as one cover. It’s set to be released on Friday, November 13, which is World Kindness Day.

Johanna wrote the original songs on the EP herself. The album features members of Gladys Knight’s choir, as well as some fellow American Idol alums such as Jenn Blosil and Jordan Moyes. The songs also feature live instruments to give the album a classic sound, with gospel and jazz influences.
“It has taken me four years to perfect each one of these songs,” Johanna said in a press release. “Each word, note, instrument, etc. has been manicured and cried over. I don’t want to sound like I don’t have dozens of songs in my back pocket that I’m waiting to produce, but it’s fair to say that this album has been my life’s work. I cannot wait for people to hear it.”
What Songs Can You Expect On Johanna’s Album?
It’s Christmastime features five songs, four of which were written by Johanna herself. The title track is a chill, jazzy song that shows off Johanna’s voice and celebrates the simple pleasures of the holiday season.

“Follow That Star” is gospel-inspired, focusing on the biblical Christmas story. “Little Snow Girl” is a cover of a song by John Gary, and features vocals from Johanna’s husband Matt Zavoral. “Warm and Safe (Mary’s Lullaby)” is an emotional ballad sung from the perspective of Mary to Jesus.
Things get fun on “Santa, You Screwed Up,” a bouncy pop tune that depicts the awkward aftermath of classic Christmas love songs like “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” This time, Santa gave the narrator’s dream guy to someone else for the holiday.
It’s Christmastime will be available on all major streaming platforms on Friday, November 13. You can pre-save the album here.
