It’s been several months since the last season of American Idol wrapped up, and we’re ready to see Season 19. Fortunately, the show just announced a premiere date, and we’ll only have to wait a few more months.
All three judges — Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan — will be returning to the panel for the upcoming season, as well as host Ryan Seacrest and mentor Bobby Bones. Read on to find out more about the new season.
When Is ‘American Idol’ Season 19 Premiering?
American Idol announced this week that the show will return for a new season on Sunday, February 14, 2021, on ABC. (What a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!) This will be the fourth season on ABC, and the nineteenth season overall.
The show accepted video auditions earlier this year, and also allowed some singers to perform for a producer on Instagram Live. Unfortunately, auditions are now closed for this season.
According to Deadline, all auditions in front of the judges this year will take place in California, due to COVID-19 concerns. Filming reportedly began October 5. Cast and crew were tested for the virus, and social distancing was practiced.
The Judges Have Been Back On Set
Last month, American Idol posted a photo of Katy, Lionel, Luke, and Ryan standing behind the judges’ table, several feet apart. This is different from last season, when singers had to perform remotely from home during the final weeks.
In August, judge Katy Perry gave birth to her daughter Daisy Dove Bloom. She tweeted about returning to work in September, writing, “I love my job.” She also advocated for paid family leave for working mothers.
Last season, singer Just Sam won Season 18 of American Idol. Who will be crowned the winner for the 2021 season? We’ll have to wait and see. Be sure to check out the premiere on Sunday, February 14, on ABC.
