The Voice returned to NBC with the beginning of the next round, the Battle Rounds. Right away, it was obvious that this round will be incredibly different. Instead of seeing singers get coached by each of the celebrities plus their advisors, each artist is working with ONLY their coach.

Chance The Rapper, Niall Horan Hit Their Steal After the FIRST Battle

The first Battle Round of the night was between Tasha Jessen and EJ Michels of Team Blake. To no surprise, Shelton picked “The Tracks of My Tears” by Smokey Robinson for the two to sing. It’s important to remember that ahead of the performance, Tasha performed “River” by Leon Bridges, and EJ performed “Easy on Me” by Adele.

I thought a Motown classic was an interesting pick for the two, since they both were border line soul singers in their blind auditions. This rendition of “The Tracks of My Tears” was beautiful, the two were neck and neck throughout each line of the song.

After the song was over, other coaches granted tons of compliments to the singers. While Kelly Clarkson thought this song was an incredibly great match, Chance The Rapper and Niall Horan admitted that EJ shined a bit more than Tasha. In the end, Shelton picked Tasha as the winner of the battle.

But, EJ’s time in the competition wasn’t over yet. Both Horan and Chance The Rapper hit their Steal button for the soul singer. EJ picked Horan as his new coach, he is now apart of Team Niall.

Kelly Clarkson Uses Her Steal

This moment was far from shocking, since Clarkson had said she was going to steal a certain Team Niall singer, since her blind audition. During Team Niall’s first Battle, the coach placed Kala Banham and Gina Miles against each other.

These singers came in with a similar vibe, soft, yet filled with emotion. Kala auditioned singing “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell, while Gina sang “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry. Horan picked “Skinny Love” by Birdy for the two artists. Their rendition of this tune had each of the coaches impressed, specifically Clarkson.

After the song was over, Horan decided to keep Gina on his time. Luckily, Kala’s The Voice journey isn’t over. As soon as Clarkson could, she hit her Steal Button for the singer.

The First Playoff Pass is Used

To end off the night, The Voice premiered their first Playoff Pass pick. The end of the episode completed with the highly anticipated Battle Round featuring Manasseh Samone and Sorelle battle it out with a stunning rendition of a classic Adele anthem.

Fans have already seen the artist’s rendition of “Someone Like You” by Adele, but it’s now time to find out which artist wins the battle. Now, it’s finally been revealed that Chance The Rapper picked Sorelle as the winner of the battle.

Before the show ended, the celebrity coach decided to give Manasseh the greatest honor, the Playoff Pass. Now, this singer will skip performing in the Knockouts, and will perform again in the Playoffs.
