The Voice is currently airing a new season in France, and contestant Stephen Di Tordo recently turned two coaches’ chairs with his rendition of “Come As You Are” by Nirvana. However, not everyone is a fan of Stephen’s unique take on the song.

‘The Voice France’ Contestant Sings Nirvana

First of all, Stephen started his Blind Audition by stepping up to the microphone and seemingly saying, “Let’s f*ck.” So it was no surprise that his performance of “Come As You Are” was a little weird. He sang with a deep, gruff voice to start things out, eventually turning two chairs.

Things got more and more questionable as the song went on. Stephen displayed a lot of confidence, at one point knocking over the mic stand and showing off some interesting dance moves. After that, he threw in some wailing notes that had the coaches laughing.

To make things even more ridiculous, he ended the performance with a literal mic drop. The two coaches who hadn’t turned around could even hear it without looking. Stephen made it through to the next round, so his time on the show isn’t over.

Viewers Aren’t So Sure About This Audition

Commenters shared their honest opinions about Stephen’s performance on YouTube, with one person writing, “I love how the other two judges were like ‘what the hell’ on some of those notes. The guy has a lot of confidence… somehow, haha.”

Another commenter was much more blunt, writing, “If I never hear it again it will be too soon.”

However, it wasn’t all negative. Some commenters admitted that they enjoyed the performance, with one calling him a badass and another wondering if they were “the only one who likes this guy.”

Stephen, who acts on the French series Cheyenne & Lola, teased his appearance on Instagram last week, writing in French, “I sing, I laugh, and I scream.” Here’s hoping there’s a little less screaming in his next performance.
