‘The Voice’ Season 19 Battle Rounds Got Off To An Exciting Start
This season, the Battle Rounds looked a bit different as social distancing guidelines have forced new changes on set. The contestants got to stand in their own wrestling rings and battled it out, socially distanced of course. The coaches each have two steals that they can use to scoop up an eliminated artist. They also have one save where they can keep one of their artists that did not win their battle.
Taryn Papa Vs. Worth The Wait (Team Blake)
Taryn Papa is an experienced country singer who performs at Blake’s venue Ole Red in Nashville. She went up against mother-daughter trio Worth The Wait who previously went viral with a video singing in a store. They sang “Little White Church” by Little Big Town during the Battle Rounds. Kelly complimented Taryn’s range but all of the coaches seemingly agreed that Worth The Wait utilized every moment of the song. Blake chose Worth The Wait as the winners. As Taryn was walking off the stage, Blake hit his save button. Therefore, nobody was eliminated during this Battle and Taryn is still a member of Team Blake.
Tamara Jade Vs. Olivia Reyes (Team Legend)
Tamara Jade had the first four-chair turn on season 19 of The Voice. She turned heads with her Lizzo cover and had everyone falling in love with her personality. Olivia Reyes is best friends with the daughter of season two winner Jermaine Paul. The pair sang “Hard Place” by H.E.R. Kelly compared Olivia to Jessie J and the coaches felt that Tamara’s charisma helped her performance raise the bar. Ultimately John felt that Tamara’s vibrato was enough for her to win the battle.
Eli Zamora Vs. Madeline Consoer (Team Kelly)
Madeline Consoer is a fitness trainer looking to reach new milestones in her music career. Eli Zamora sings in both English and Spanish and spent half of his life in Mexico. The pair sang “Nobody Wants To Be Lonely” by Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera and Madeline shockingly sang in Spanish for the first time ever. Gwen said that Eli’s performance was effortless but the coaches praised their ability to work as a team. Kelly chose Madeline as the winner of the battle.

Lauren Frihauf Vs. Payge Turner (Team Gwen)
Lauren Frihauf grew up on a farm and trained in opera before finding a love for rock music. Payge Turner is a spunky artist that puts her own spin on everything she does. The pair sang “If The World Was Ending” in front of Gwen’s advisor Julia Michaels who sings the song. Kelly said that she could not keep her eyes off of Payge. Blake complimented Lauren’s uniqueness. Gwen chose Payge as the winner of the battle. Lauren was walking off the stage when John and Blake both hit their buttons for a steal, leaving them to duke it out. Gwen wanted to save her. Lauren had the ultimate choice to make and decided to go with Team Legend. John successfully fended off Blake once and for all.
Payton Lamar Vs. Jus John (Team Blake)
Payton Lamar and Jus John are the two pop artists on Team Blake. Jus John is hoping for The Voice to open up music opportunities for him while his mom battles multiple sclerosis. Payton previously lived abroad and has returned to American with a vision of pursuing music. The pair performed “Dancing With A Stranger” by Sam Smith and Normani. The coaches compared Jus John to Usher. He was chosen by Blake as the winner of the battle.
Sid Kinglsey Vs. Bailey Rae (Team Legend)
Bailey Rae is a young country artist who grew up in a rodeo family. Sid Kinglsey is a seasoned musician who was encouraged to begin singing by his fiancé. The pair took on “Tennessee Whiskey” during The Voice Battle Rounds. Gwen complimented Sid’s range. Kelly also praised Sid for his strong presence. Blake said that Bailey’s pitch was a bit off because of nerves. John ended up choosing Bailey as the winner of the battle. Kelly stole Sid, making him a member of Team Kelly now after she was floored by his voice.
