The Voice Battles are starting this week, and the competition is heating up. The show has released a sneak peek of one of the upcoming battles, between Lauren Frihauf and Payge Turner on Team Gwen.

In addition to the performance, the clip also features some banter between the coaches. Gwen Stefani even took the opportunity to call her now-fiancé Blake Shelton “dumb.” Check it out in the video below.

Lauren and Payge performed “If the World Was Ending” by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. Usually, the contestants battle together on a set made to look like a boxing ring. This time, however, the singers are on their own separate stages due to COVID-19 precautions.

Kelly Clarkson called the performance “intense,” and told Payge, “I could not keep my eyes off of you. There is something so special about your tone.” She said Lauren has an “angelic” tone, but said she would choose Payge.

John Legend said both singers did a good job conveying what the song was about. He added that he wasn’t sure who Gwen should choose. “As Gwen would say, thanks for nothing,” host Carson Daly joked.

“I was trying to imagine myself trying to perform a song like that,” Blake said, prompting John Legend to joke, “I’m trying my best not to imagine you singing that song.”

Blake responded by telling John to “come over here.” Gwen thought it was especially funny. She laughed and said to Blake, “You’re so dumb. Oh my God.” We’re sure she meant it with love.

When it came time to decide which singer should move on with her team, Gwen said it was “nearly impossible for me to choose somebody.” Kelly told her she didn’t envy the decision she had to make.

We’ll have to wait until the Voice Battles air Monday night on NBC to find out which artist Gwen chose to keep on her team.
