‘The Voice’ Beats Out Major Talent Competitions In PCA Win — How Did It Happen?
The year 2020 has certainly been unconventional. The People’s Choice Awards looked a little different this year with a socially distanced show amid the coronavirus pandemic. But the virtual audience proved one thing, their love for The Voice which won the award for The Competition Show Of 2020.
‘The Voice’ Won Big At The People’s Choice Awards
Nominated in The Competition Show Of 2020 category were American Idol, America’s Got Talent, Top Chef, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Bachelor, The Challenge: Total Madness, The Masked Singer and The Voice. Honestly speaking, The Voice had some stiff competition this year especially going up against very popular shows with massive followings like The Bachelor. So how did The Voice win the PCA?
The People’s Choice Awards is a fan-voted award show so people at home are the ones who have the power. Over one billion votes were cast this year online before the big show. Fans showed their love for The Voice which is currently in its 19th season. One huge reason that so many people love the show is obviously coach Blake Shelton.
Blake is definitely known to be the funny and outspoken one on the show and is always scheming to try and win the show. He has already won the show seven times and is the only judge that has appeared on all 19 seasons. Blake picked up a win of his own at the PCA’s so it is clear he has a massive following.
Plus, the fact that viewers get to see Blake and Gwen Stefani’s relationship play out on camera is another reason why the show is so popular with country fans. When you factor in someone like Kelly Clarkson who has both a big personality and a big voice, this all-star coaching panel is stacked with talent. They make sure to give the best advice possible to each of the contestants and their bickering adds to the appeal and drama of the show.
Is The Award Show Win Shocking For Fans Of Other Talent Competitions?
Several people weighed in on The Voice’s awards show win on social media. “Real talent real people real judges that really care about what they’re doing….perfect combo,” wrote one fan on Instagram after the victory was announced. “I wanted The Masked Singer to win but I love The Voice,” another person said. While The Masked Singer is a fun show to watch, it definitely does not have as much pressure and drama as a competition like The Voice since it features celebrities that are already famous.

Though the ratings for The Voice have been on a little bit of a decline, people are still tuning in each week to see their favorites perform. One thing to take into account is that it is competing with Dancing With the Stars on Monday nights which also has a huge following. People will always continue to watch The Voice which brings tremendous excitement with its rotating panel of coaches and head to head battles.
Congratulations to everyone on The Voice for this win. It is clear that even with everything going on in the world, it’s everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure to watch.
