‘The Voice’ Battles Continue + A Former Coach Is Returning To The Show!
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The Battles continued on The Voice Season 19 Tuesday night, as the coaches pitted artists from their teams against each other. Each coach has two steals available that allow them to take another coach’s eliminated artist, as well as one save to keep a losing artist in their team.
During tonight’s episode, one coach used a steal and another used a save. We also found out who this season’s Mega Mentor will be for the Knockout round. Former coach Usher will be returning to help advise the artists as they prepare for their performances.
When host Carson Daly broke the news of Usher’s return to The Voice, some of the coaches were paranoid about him stealing the spotlight. We can’t wait to see him return to the show. In the meantime, check out tonight’s amazing performances below, and find out which artists won their battles, which were stolen or saved, and which had to go home.

Desz vs. Joseph Soul (Team Kelly)
Kelly Clarkson assigned these two artists to sing “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. After the performance, Blake Shelton complimented the “power” of Desz’s voice, but said Joseph held his own. Kelly said Joseph is “like an angel that sings R&B.” She said Desz “commands attention.” She ultimately chose Desz as the winner of the battle. Gwen Stefani then chose to steal Joseph for her team.
Jim Ranger vs. John Sullivan (Team Blake)
Blake Shelton assigned these artists to sing “Good As You” by their advisor, Kane Brown. John Legend said the performance had a “sunny vibe,” adding that he would choose Jim as the winner. Gwen agreed, saying she couldn’t take her eyes off Jim. Kelly thought it was “pretty evenly matched.” Blake said he wouldn’t have matched them up if he had the chance again. He ultimately chose Jim as the winner of the battle.
Julia Cooper vs. John Holiday (Team Legend)
John Legend assigned these artists to sing “Summer Soft” by Stevie Wonder. Gwen Stefani said it was “so entertaining and so weird,” pointing out how “unusual” John and Julia’s voices are. Kelly complimented John’s vocal range, but praised Julia’s “unexpected” choices. Blake said Julia is a “master” of her head voice. John Legend said they both “knocked it out of the park.” He chose John as the winner of the battle. However, he chose to save Julia, meaning both artists get to stay on his team.
The Voice Season 19 Battles will continue next Monday night on NBC.
