The Voice Battle of Champions returned to NBC on March 30 with the Knockout Round. In this round, original The Voice coach CeeLo Green acted as mega mentor, alongside Michael Bublé. Here’s who went through and here’s who went home.
Team Legend Singer Impresses With Billy Joel Tune
The night kicked off with Team Legend members Moses G. and Lucas West. The song picks fit the singer’s chosen genres perfectly. They sang “Lets Get it On” by Marvin Gaye and “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel, respectively.
Coaches were cheering for Moses after his Knockout performance, but they were seen visibly shocked by Lucas. Lucas’s tone has the correct amount of rasp to kill a Billy Joel song, and Moses voice had the classic smooth R&B tone needed for the Marvin Gaye song.
Legend went on to compliment both singers, saying Moses shared sunshine in his performance, while he was impressed by Lucas’s ability to perform piano and sing. Though he was impressed with both singers, he ultimately decided to pick Lucas as the winner of the Knockout.
Up next was Team Kelly members Houston Kelly and JW Griffin. They sang “Love You Anyway” by Luke Combs and “If it Hadn’t Been For Love” by the SteelDrivers respectively. Though both singers have classic country tones, coaches seemed to lean towards JW over Houston.
Clarkson admitted that the singers both tackled notes that they typically don’t do. The actual artists came a ways even just for this performance. The coach admitted that both were equally as gifted, but she felt that JW was more ready for the competition than Houston.
Next came Team Adam, who kicked off with Alexia Jayy. She chose to sing “You Give Good Love” by Whitney Houston in the Knockouts, while her opponent, Bay Simpson sang “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers. Though this pair was matched well, it was obvious that Alexia was the winner of the pair. Levine chose Alexia as the winner.
Shocking Eliminations Continue in The Knockouts
The second hour of the Knockouts kicked off with Team Kelly members Abigayle Oakley and Liv Ciara. They sang “Feather” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson, respectively. Coaches were stunned by Abigayle’s rendition of “Feather,” and as evenly impressed with Liv, since she’s only 16 and taking a chance to sing her coaches song.
Clarkson immediately complimented Abigayle for her rendition of Carpenter’s song, while also complimenting Liv for saying her song choice normally isn’t a showstopper, but Liv made it one. The coach ultimately decided to have Liv continue into the next round.
Up next was Team Legend members Natasha Blaine and Syd Millevoi. They sang “Another Sad Love Song” Toni Braxton and “Tell Me You Love Me” by Demi Lovato, respectively. After the performances, coaches commented on the singers’ abilities to find comfort on the stage. Once both singers got comfortable, they were able to hit every note imaginable.
After coach commentary, Legend spoke to his teammates, telling Natasha to lean into her genre, and Syd finding the next level by tapping into the emotion of each song. Ultimately, Legend chose Syd as the winner of the Knockout.
Adam Levine Wishes He Could Save Both Singers
The final Knockout of the night was between Mike Steele and Jeremy Keith. The pair performed “How You Gonna Act Like That” by Tyreese and “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing” by Marvin Gaye, respectively.
As coaches gave their opinion, Levine realized that he had a tough decision to make. Both singers absolutely stunned with their songs, so other coaches showed sympathy for Levine, saying that both should go through. After saying multiple times that Levien wishes he could’ve saved both singers, he chose Jeremy as the winner.
The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, April 6 at 9PM ET. Be sure to tune into the show so you don’t miss any moment of the competition.
