When country singer Tom Nitti mysteriously departed from Season 24 of The Voice ahead of the Playoff Rounds, citing only unspecified “personal reasons,” it left fans shocked and speculating about what could have prompted his sudden exit. Now, Nitti is finally opening up about the real reasons behind his difficult decision to leave the show.
Why Did Tom Nitti Exit The Show?
In a recent emotional Instagram post, Nitti revealed that ultimately, the decision came down to prioritizing time with his family.
“I had to probably make one of the hardest yet easiest decisions ever,” Nitti shared. “My kids will always come first and if I had to make the same choice again I would do it over and over.”
Nitti’s two young children had remained back home in New York while he was filming in Los Angeles. Sources close to the singer say that over the course of the competition, Nitti became increasingly homesick and felt he was missing important milestones in his kids’ lives.
The decision surprised many, considering Nitti was a frontrunner on Team Reba and seen as having a strong shot at winning the whole competition. His covers of songs like Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and The Temptations’ “(I Know) I’m Losing You” earned him high praise from judges and fans alike.
Ultimately, Nitti’s family took priority over any aspirations for fame. Although he felt torn about abandoning his aspirations, he knew that prioritizing his family was the right decision.
Tom Nitti is Also a New York State Trooper
Outside of parenting, Nitti also cited his demanding career as a New York State Trooper and police academy instructor as another factor. Juggling those intensive jobs on top of The Voice‘s rehearsal and performance schedule proved exhausting, even for someone with Nitti’s work ethic.
So while it seemingly would have made sense to wait and bow out after this week’s live playoffs instead of earlier, Nitti knew he had reached his breaking point. Thankfully, Nitti says this exit won’t be his last performance, hinting at a possible return to the show in the future.
“This isn’t the end of me and I’ll do what I do best for everyone to see which is keep my head down and move forward playing music and raising/creating new memories with a family I will continue to grow.” He wrote on Instagram.
