The Real Reason Heidi Klum Didn’t Want Her Daughter To Be A Model Just Yet

Heidi Klum is a proud mom after her 16-year-old daughter Leni Klum made her big modeling debut on a German Vogue cover. The ‘AGT’ judge wasn’t always so willing to let her daughter model but feels like now is the right time. How did Leni finally get her start in the modeling world?
Heidi Klum’s Daughter Leni Klum Was Not Allowed To Model Until 16
Heidi spoke to People Magazine about all of Leni’s newfound success. “She’s been doing fantastic. She’s been wanting to model for quite some time. And I finally said yes because she’s now old enough, she’s almost 17. She started with the German Vogue cover and she has another cover that’s coming out in two months,” she said.
Being on the magazine cover with her mom opened many doors for Leni. “She opened Berlin Fashion Week where I saw her walk for the first time, in heels like as a real fashion model. It’s mindblowing to me to watch her work, especially the first thing I did together with her and now she’s doing things by herself, even though I go to the set,” Heidi added.

Heidi always had a rule that Leni needed to be at least 16 years old before she started working. This meant that Leni had to decline some opportunities that were presented to her early on in her life.
“It was only a matter of time before I would try to become a model,” Leni said in an interview with Vogue. “The first offer came when I was only 12 or 13, from a brand I liked to wear: Brandy Melville. At that time I begged my mother, but no chance. Now I understand that it would have been too early.”
“For most other jobs, I’d have to stifle my crazy ways to look ‘professional'” Leni added. “As a model, I can let everything out and just be who I am. The job is the perfect outlet for all the energy that I have in me.”
Leni Was Born To Be A Model Just Like Her Mom
Modeling is in Leni’s blood so it’s no surprise that she is following the same career path as her mother. “I do Germany’s Next Top Model and she’s done a lot of the shoots the models had to do. A lot of the times at the end of the shoots, she would be like, ‘Now it’s my turn!’ off-camera” Heidi said.
“It’s amazing to watch her do it all. She’s been coming to my sets for her entire life and she’s not really afraid of the cameras being stuck in her face” she added.
Heidi shares daughter Leni with businessman Flavio Briatore. Leni was later adopted by Heidi’s ex-husband Seal. Heidi and Seal have three other children together Henry, 15, Johan, 14 and Lou, 11. Now, Heidi is married to Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz. Heidi previously shared a picture of the family at the Boros Collection in Berlin, Germany.

Both Heidi and Leni have some exciting things coming up in their lives. Heidi will be joining the ‘AGT’ judging panel for Season 16 which will premiere at a later date. Leni will be featured on another magazine cover that will be out in two months.
