Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Masked Singer Season 9 returned on Wednesday night for the Semifinals, as the Top 3 performers took the stage for a chance to move on to next week’s finale. Ultimately, California Roll was eliminated and unmasked as a cappella group Pentatonix.
California Roll Unmasked on The Masked Singer
During Wednesday’s Semifinals episode, California Roll took the stage to perform their version of “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson. Panelist Jenny McCarthy called them the “ones to beat,” and Nicole Scherzinger said they made the song their own.
Later, California Roll participated in a three-way Battle Royale against Medusa and Macaw. They shared their take on “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars. Despite their impressive performance, they didn’t earn enough votes to go to the finale.
That meant that California Roll had to be unmasked. Final guesses from the panel included the cast of Pitch Perfect and In the Heights. However, only McCarthy and Robin Thicke were correct in guessing that they were a cappella group Pentatonix.
The group of five talented singers finished the show with an extended performance of “Creep,” which they performed during last week’s Quarterfinals. The panel was clearly wowed.

Medusa, Macaw Move on to the Finale
Next week marks the Season 9 finale of The Masked Singer. With California Roll eliminated, only Medusa and Macaw are left in the competition. They’ll go head to head for the chance to win the coveted golden mask trophy.
During Wednesday’s episode, Medusa delivered a powerhouse performance of “Take Me to Church” by Hozier that inspired Scherzinger to call them a “frontrunner.” Meanwhile, Macaw also impressed with their rendition of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”
Both singers also showed off amazing talent in the three-way Battle Royale. In fact, Thicke call it the best Battle Royale the show has ever seen. We can’t wait to see Macaw and Medusa bring their A game during next week’s finale.
