‘The Masked Dancer’ Will Get A UK Version — Here Are All The Details
‘The Masked Dancer’ To Air In UK Replacing ‘BGT’
The Masked Dancer is a new show that aired in the US on FOX and has been an equal success alongside The Masked Singer.
The spin-off will now have a chance to win over viewers in the UK as it receives it’s very first international version. ITV will air the show after already airing two seasons of The Masked Singer UK.
The upcoming show that will see masked celebrity dancers take to the stage in a very similar format to the known and loved Masked Singer format, will take a piece of BGT‘s spring primetime slot. The Cowell run talent show won’t air this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The new spin-off will also see some familiar faces. Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan will all return alongside new judge, Oti Mabuse. Mabuse is no stranger to TV talent shows, appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.
ITV Head of Entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe, spoke on the new commission by ITV saying the new show will ‘build on’ the ‘success’ of The Masked Singer. “The Masked Singer is a huge hit for ITV and our viewers can’t get enough of this colourful guessing game. The Masked Dancer will build on that success and create a new format that will be just as much fun and entertaining for our viewers,” she said.
What Will The Format Of The Show Look Like?
ITV has already put out a statement indicating a few things as to what we can expect from the new show.
“The new format will feature 12 celebrities stepping onto the dancefloor to take on character alter egos as they trip the light fantastic in a bid to wow the panel and confuse with their moves,” a statement from the channel said.
“Clue packages will accompany every Masked Dancer to help the panel and at home detectives crack the case of who the famous faces behind the masks are.”
There is no confirmed air date just yet, but we can expect it to appear on screens sometime in the next few months.
