Kylie Sonique Love is the first transgender winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars
Before winning RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6, Kylie Sonique Love came out as transgender on live television. She talked about how she’s always been a girl trapped in a boy’s body and has been happier since taking testosterone blockers. She is the first transgender person to ever win the hit show.
JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson are the first same-sex team on Dancing with the Stars
On the historic thirtieth season of Dancing with the Stars, we finally saw a same-sex couple take the dance floor. JoJo and Jenna rocked their performances week after week, earning multiple perfect scores. Although they came in second place this season, the two showed week after week that you can be true to yourself and still be successful.
Sasha Allen is the first transgender person to progress past the battles on The Voice U.S.
Sasha Allen was the first openly transgender singer to make it past the battle rounds in 21 seasons of the American version of The Voice. The Team Ariana singer performed with his father throughout the show and made it all the way to the Top 8, creating quite the landmark. Sasha shared a shirtless Instagram post expressing his gratitude for his spot on Team Ariana, joking that he’s shirtless because he’s getting his money’s worth of the $7,000 top surgery.
Jay Miah performs as his drag persona on Alter Ego
The new show is meant to allow singers to perform as someone unlike their daily self. Jay Miah, who previously appeared on American Idol, took full advantage of the concept by designing his alter to be a drag persona. Jay’s character frequently flirted with the judges who were later shocked to see his human form.
Iman Shumpert is the first NBA player to win Dancing with the Stars
Easily the greatest underdog story we saw this year was Iman Shumpert and his DWTS partner Daniella Karagach winning the mirrorball trophy. Iman was the only celebrity in the final four who did not have prior professional dance experience and he was the most improved this season. Iman is the first former NBA player to ever with the show since the huge height difference between the ballers and their partners usually put them at a disadvantage.
