Mike Jerel played a few keys on the piano and sang about three words before the unthinkable happened. In one of the quickest chair turns in The Voice history, Mike became an immediate frontrunner of the competition. Check out his audition below that will give you chills.

Mike Jerel Had Super Fast Chair Turn During ‘The Voice’ Audition

Mike sang James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” during his season 18 audition for The Voice. He managed to get out the first line of the song “This is a man’s world” before Nick Jonas and John Legend pressed their buttons in record time. The pair turned their chairs so quickly, it took a second to process what just happened. John stood up on his feet dancing as Mike’s performance was full of soul.

It took one high note to turn coach Kelly Clarkson’s chair. The coaches all encouraged Blake to turn his chair as he listened intently. During the last line of the song, Blake turned his chair making it the first four-chair turn of the night.

John immediately connected with him and said he could hear that he has a lot of influences singing in church in his voice and tone. “Everything you did was done with such a level of confidence, note for note, you had a plan, you knew where you wanted to go…I would absolutely love to coach you,” he said. It was no surprise that Mike chose to be on Team Legend. “Choosing John as a coach was a no-brainer for me,” he told us. “I felt that he would understand me as an artist, and would be a huge asset to guide me in the right direction.”

During The Battles, Mike performed “Adorn” against Zach Day and came out on top. He then went on to perform “Versace on the Floor” during The Knockouts. He advanced to the Live Playoffs where he was then eliminated.

Where Is He Now?

After appearing on The Voice and having one of the most iconic auditions of all time, Mike continues to post covers on YouTube. He also partnered with Columbus Counts 2020 to raise awareness about filling out the 2020 Census. He performed a free concert.

He also posted a very inspirational cover of “We Need You Right Now” by Donny Hathaway. When asked what his biggest takeaway from working with John Legend was he said “trust what works.” He continued “One of my favorite quotes is, whatever we believe about ourselves, becomes true for us. Trust yourself and trust your gift.”

After his journey on The Voice came to an end, he posted “What a ride this is… & thankful for @johnlegend for believing in me.”

At the beginning of August, Mike posted that he was back in the studio. “I’m having the opportunity to work with some amazing musicians. I can’t wait to share this with you!” he wrote on Instagram. “I feel that my original music is music for the soul. I believe that it’s relatable and it speaks to the listener to some capacity” he said about his original music.

We definitely cannot wait to hear Mike’s original music especially since his audition is one we will never forget. What did you think of his audition?
