Sharon Osbourne Defends Piers Morgan After Backlash For Meghan Markle Comments

Former talent show judge Piers Morgan has had quite an eventful day today. The Good Morning Britain host stormed off the set after facing backlash for comments about Meghan Markle. News began swirling that he has decided to quit the show for good. Sharon Osbourne who worked with Piers on ‘AGT’ in the past took to Twitter to defend him.
Sharon Osbourne Defends Piers Morgan After Heated Debate
Piers and his co-hosts got into a heated debate about Meghan and Prince Harry’s recent interview with Oprah. In the interview, Meghan dropped several bombshells about the royal family. She opened up about facing suicidal thoughts and racism while living in the UK.
Piers was dismissive of Meghan’s claims. “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says,” he said on Good Morning Britain. “I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”
Piers and Alex Beresford got into a shouting match on air. Alex brought up the fact that Piers once had a personal relationship with Meghan and she cut him off. “She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has” Alex said. Piers stood up out of his chair and walked off the set while announcing that he was “done.”
Sharon tweeted “@piersmorgan I am with you. I stand by you. People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth.” Sharon’s tweet came as she tackled the same subject on The Talk with her co-hosts. Sharon said during the broadcast that she thinks the palace feels “ashamed.”
Sharon Defended Piers And His Comments About Meghan In The Past
Sharon and Piers have remained pretty good friends since their ‘AGT’ days. She knew about Piers and Meghan’s friendship that blossomed just as she began dating Harry. They shared a night out at a pub which allegedly ended in her ghosting him. In 2018, Sharon revealed on The Talk what she knew about Piers and his opinions towards Meghan.
“He did tell me the story.. that they were friends. Piers owns a very well-known pub in London,” she said. “She used to go there regularly and they were pals, they would text back and forth.”

“Everyone knows he is a friend of mine, he was a very good friend of Princess Diana and he never ever, ever betrayed her trust, and that’s all I can say,” Sharon continued. “If Meghan was afraid that he would betray her in any way, she just had to look back and see about his relationship with Diana.”
“I’ve never met Meghan, I know nothing about her other than what we all know,” Sharon added. “I can tell you that I told Piers a lot of things when we worked together, personal things. He never said a word.”
ITV put out a statement after Piers’s big commotion on television. “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add” the statement says.
