In a series of cryptic posts on Instagram, Shakira appears to reflect on recent life struggles, specifically her separation from ex-boyfriend Gerard Piquè. As fans were left wondering, she later revealed that her new single will be coming out soon.
Shakira’s Vague Posts Spark Confusion
The Queen of Latin Music first intrigued fans on October 7, with an Instagram reel written in Spanish. With clear typewriter tap sounds in the background, the text says “No fue culpa tuya…” This preview translates to “it wasn’t your fault.”
No caption was written along with the post, but fans anticipated a continuation because of the ellipsis. True enough, more Instagram reels surfaced afterwards. She followed the first clip with another of the same format, with the text “Ni tampoco mia.” Then a day after, she uploaded one more, writing “Fue culpa de la monotonia.”
Combining the posts together, Shakira was trying to send across the message, “It wasn’t your fault, neither mine. It was monotony’s fault.”
Consequently, fans of the “Whenever, Wherever” singer began questioning the Instagram reels, due to the subject. As of writing, the posts have reached more than 10 million views and thousands of curious comments.
She Intrigued Fans Even More with a Metaphorical Clip
Curious comments further increased when Shakira posted another video which seems to make her hurt more visible. The singer then posted a video of an unidentified man stomping over a human heart in the middle of a hectic scene.
“I never said anything but it hurt. I knew this would happen,” she wrote as caption.
The Colombian singer did not exactly mention who hurt her. However, the public knows that she and Gerard Piqué have called it quits. In her Elle cover story, Shakira admitted that it’s been “incredibly difficult” for her to deal with the public breakup.
She also stated that she purposely remained quiet because she wanted to protect her kids. Now though, she seems to express her frustration more evidently.
She Later Announced New Single with Ozuna
While some fans speculated that Shakira was simply being transparent, others guessed that the posts had something to do with her new music. Indeed, Shakira is releasing a new single in collaboration with Ozuna.
Apparently, Shakira was teasing the single through her social media posts. The singer revealed on Sunday, October 9, that she will be issuing her newest song, “Monotonía.”
As of the moment, fans can pre-save “Monotonía” on Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer. Meanwhile, the single will officially be released on October 19.
“Monotonía” will follow Shakira’s recent hit with Rauw Alejandro, “Te Felicito.” As the Colombian superstar continues to battle her tax fraud case and deal with a devastating split, the soon-to-be-released single is anticipated to be emotionally enrapturing.
