Star Search returned on Netflix for the Semifinals on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Last week’s winners went up against new challengers to determine who should go to next week’s finale. Although some returning acts were victorious, others lost to the new performers.

Who Made It to the Star Search Finale?

On Tuesday’s new episode of Star Search, last week’s winning singer Sophie Saylor went up against new competitor Spud Howard in the Music Solo category. Spud’s soulful performance of “Help!” by The Beatles was enough to unseat Sophie and send him to the finale. “You made H-Town proud. Go back to Texas with a smile, baby,” judge Jelly Roll told him.

Also performing on Tuesday night was the dance group Movement 55, who won last week’s show in the Dance category. They earned themselves a spot in next week’s finale with an energetic routine set to “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. Judge Chrissy Teigen said they went “epically hard.”

Another winning act from last week’s show who earned their spot in the finale was acrobatic pair Duo Vespertilio. They once again competed in the Variety category, wowing the judges with their dangerous aerial routine. They teased an exciting performance for next week’s finale.

Tuesday’s show also featured the Juniors Variety category, as last week’s winning act Harry Merlin Piper held on to his crown with another impressive magic routine, as he turned water into snow. Judge Sarah Michelle Gellar praised Harry’s range as a magician.

Who Else Impressed in the Semifinals?

Star Search returned on Netflix for another Semifinals episode on Wednesday night, as new competitor Madison Lauren went up against last week’s winning singer Yair Keydar in the Juniors Music category. Madison impressed with a cover of “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, earning her a spot in the finale.

In the Music Group category, girl group H3RIZON returned to the stage for another performance, this time singing “Free” from KPop Demon Hunters. They kept their spot in the competition and will head to next week’s finale. Chrissy Teigen called the group’s harmonies “unreal.”

In the Comedy category, last week’s winning performer JR De Guzman went up against new competitor Janine Harouni. Janine’s funny routine talking about her husband’s proposal earned her a spot in next week’s finale. After making it through, she told host Anthony Anderson, “I really have to go to the bathroom, but I’m also feeling very excited.”

The final round of the night was in the Variety category, as last week’s winning magician TJ Salta kept his crown with another impressive routine that made Chrissy Teigen let out a few dirty words. Jelly Roll said the performance “literally blew my mind.” TJ will return next week for the finale.

The Star Search finale will air live on Netflix next Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Will you be watching? Which act are you rooting for to win the season? Let us know in the comments below.
