Speaking to Marca, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer got candid about her realizations upon her separation from the football star. According to Shakira, she’s always felt the need to user her voice and lend it to those who cannot speak. Furthermore, the musician emphasized the significance of women’s support to other women.
“I have realized that women are at a key moment for society, at a point where the support we can receive from each other is very relevant,” she said. “And as Madeleine Albright, U.S. Secretary of State used to say: ‘There is a place reserved in hell for those women who do not support others,'”
Soon after, fans are quick to assume that Shakira directed the statement to Pique’s 23-year-old girlfriend Clara Chia Marti. As per allegations, this is the Latina’s response to the two who recently went public about their romance on Instagram.
Apparently, Pique’s caption-less Instagram post came weeks after Shakira released her song “BZRP Music Sessions #53.” This single essentially captures the singer’s emotions following her breakup from the athlete.
She Admits Being “Emotionally Dependent on Men” Before
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer shares two sons with Pique, Sasha, 7, and Milan, 9. Shakira admitted that she once dreamt of having a family for her children. Unfortunately, she’s now realized that “not all dreams in life are fulfilled.”
“I have always been emotionally dependent on men, I have to confess,” she said. “I have been in love with love and I think I have been able to understand that story from another perspective.”
Today though, Shakira has managed to feel “enough” and “complete.” Right now, she gathers strength from the fact that she has to take care of Sasha and Milan.
“There are dreams that are broken,” she said. “You have to pick up the little pieces from the ground and rebuild yourself again.”
