‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Choreographer Todrick Hall Started on ‘American Idol’ is He Now on ‘The Masked Singer’?
Singer Todrick Hall is known for his YouTube videos and performances on Broadway, but did you know he competed on American Idol in 2010? Hall made it all the way to the Top 16 of Season 9 before being eliminated.
Now that Hall is rumored to be one of the celebrities behind a mask on Season 6 of The Masked Singer, there’s no better time to look back on the 36-year-old’s memorable audition for Idol.
Hall Competed on ‘American Idol’ in Season 9
Before appearing on American Idol, Hall performed on Broadway in The Color Purple with the show’s past winner, Fantasia Barrino. In his audition for the talent show, Hall sang an original song encouraging the judges to send him through.
“Do I have to get down on my knees in my $300 jeans? ‘Cause I would,” Hall sang in the tongue-in-cheek performance, which showed off his impressive voice. Judge Kara DioGuardi called the song “awesome,” and Randy Jackson said it was “cute.”
Even Simon Cowell couldn’t help but smile. When Hall asked if he could get a clap, Cowell begrudgingly complied. He called it a “cutesy audition,” but said he wasn’t “jumping out my chair” over his voice. However, he still voted “yes” to sending Hall through, along with the other judges.
During his time on the show, Hall performed such songs as “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson, “What’s Love Got to Do With It” by Tina Turner, and “Somebody to Love” by Queen.
