Nikki Sixx Greets ‘American Idol’ Judges in Sneak Peek
In the sneak peek video, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan drive up in a convertible on the Sunset Strip. Richie says he wants to see this season’s young contestants “walking in the footsteps of major giants.”
One of those giants is Nikki Sixx, bassist and songwriter for the band Mötley Crüe, which was formed in 1981. He welcomes the judges as they enter the audition room, playing the band’s song “Home Sweet Home.”
“If anybody wants to hear about the stories of the Sunset Strip…” Richie says, pointing at Sixx, who replies, “Don’t come to me.”
Mötley Crüe was also co-founded by Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil. On June 16, the band will kick off their summer tour with Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts in Atlanta. You can find out more about the tour on the band’s website.

Sixx Was Happy to Make an Appearance
“It was a lot of fun to team up with American Idol upon the show’s return to L.A. After all, Mötley Crüe are also from L.A., and so many amazing songwriters call Los Angeles their ‘Home Sweet Home,’” Sixx told Billboard in a statement about his appearance.
Sixx went on to say that he admires how the show allows artists to reinterpret older songs for a younger audience, sharing, “As a songwriter myself, that’s something I really appreciate so when I was invited to appear on this Sunday’s episode I did not hesitate.”
American Idol will air twice next week, with a new episode on Sunday, March 20, and another on Monday, March 21. The judges still have one Platinum Ticket left to hand out before the auditions come to a close.
