Priyanka Chopra Jonas Addresses Controversy Over Using a Surrogate for Her Baby

Priyanka Chopra Jonas sparked criticisms when it was revealed that she and her husband Nick Jonas utilized a surrogate to give birth to their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. The actress addressed the controversy surrounding the birth process by revealing that it was medically a “necessary step.“
Priyanka Chopra Addressed Surrogate Critics
Announcing the birth of her first child with the singer has been met with a lot of criticism which is hard for the new mother. Chopra and her husband made a joint statement on their own social media pages to share the news of Malti’s arrival.
“I’ve developed a tough hide when people talk about me,” Chopra said. “But it’s so painful when they talk about my daughter. I’m like, ‘Keep her out of it.’ I’ve been really protective of this chapter of my life with my daughter. Because it’s not about my life only. It’s hers too.”
Chopra noted that surrogacy was a necessary procedure due to having complications in delivering the baby. She also implied that the critics are unlikely going to change their minds about the birth process, expressing that they don’t know what she went through.
Earlier this month, during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jonas talked about celebrating Malti’s first birthday. Malti turned a year old earlier this year and the couple celebrated their child’s birthday in style.
“We had to celebrate, She went through a pretty wild journey in the early part of her life, so we had to celebrate in style. She’s one. She’s beautiful. It’s amazing, the best.” Jonas said.
Chopra Recalls Having Premature Birth Complications For Her Child
Priyanka Chopra has finally revealed intimate facts about the birth of her daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. The star, who has avoided posting photographs of Malti’s face on social media, discussed her premature birth, why she chose surrogacy, and more. Priyanka told British Vogue that her kid was born a full trimester too soon.
“I was in the OR when she came out. She was so small, smaller than my hand,” Chopra said. “I saw what the intensive-care nurses do. They do God’s work. Nick and I were both standing there as they intubated her. I don’t know how they even found what they needed to intubate her.”
The complications are what led to the couple having a surrogate for their child, Chopra detailed that the surrogate was extremely caring for their little one.
“Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months,” Chopra said.
