New Season Of ‘BGT’ Delayed — What This Means For Simon Cowell
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The new season of BGT was supposed to start filming in the UK this January, but plans have now changed. ITV recently announced that production has been postponed in accordance with health guidelines during the pandemic.
This also means judge Simon Cowell will likely be changing his plans. He was set to make his television return after recovering from a back injury last year. Read on to find out more about this new development.
‘BGT’ Postpones Production
ITV released a statement on Thursday saying, “The filming for the 15th series of Britain’s Got Talent has been postponed from its proposed record dates in late January.”

“With the announcement of the latest Government health guidelines,” the statement continues, “and with our priority of safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved in our programmes we, together with the production teams at Thames and Syco, have taken the decision to move the record and broadcast of the forthcoming series.”
The statement adds that new dates would be announced “in due course.” As Hello magazine explains, although some productions are allowed to continue in the midst of regulations, BGT involves so many contestants traveling to the set that it may make things too difficult.
Will Simon Cowell Still Be Back On The Show?
Hello also points out that this could affect Simon Cowell’s plans. He was meant to return to the judges’ table this month after missing last season’s live shows. Simon broke his back last summer in an electric bike accident, and underwent surgery.

Fellow judge Amanda Holden said in a recent interview that Simon would be back for the new season. “I spoke to him on the phone a few weeks ago and he feels on top of the world and apparently he looks fantastic as well,” she said. “So he’ll be back for the new season which we’re filming in January.”
As Hello speculates, this means Simon may not return to the UK for the time being. He may even stay in Barbados for the foreseeable future, as he spent the holidays there with his family.
Either way, we expect to see him back on TV this year.
