NBC released a first look at the highly anticipated new series, American Song Contest. After months of speculation, the network finally shared a first look at this singing competition. This new series mirrors the format of the European phenomenon, Eurovision.

Eurovision is one of the most viewed talent competitions in the United Kingdom. The series draws in over 200 million viewers annually. Due to the success of the series in Europe, America is adapting the format and bringing it to the states. The first look video prepares viewers for different genres, larger than life performances, and giant stakes for the state vs state show.

American Song Contest follows in the footsteps of Eurovision in the attempt to find the best original song. Eurovision features participants representing European countries. American Song Contest will feature one artist from each of the 50 U.S. states, five territories, and Washington, D.C. competing for the title of best original song.

Artists can be solo, duos, bands, or even a DJ. Each artist will an original song throughout each round of the competition. There will be three rounds in total, Qualifying Rounds, Semi Finals and the ultimate Grand Final. The first winner will be determined from both fan votes and “a jury of music industry professionals.”

American Song Contest will begin airing live on Mondays beginning March 21. The series will premiere new episodes in NBC’s 8-10 p.m. ET time slot for multiple weeks. As of right now, celebrity judges and overall host have not been announced.

AGT: Extreme, American Song Contest Switch Premiere Dates

Originally, American Song Contest‘s premiere date was February 21. The newest America’s Got Talent spin off series, AGT: Extreme, was set to take the time slot after American Song Contest. On January 19, NBC announced that the shows would switch places on the schedule. The network decided to delay American Song Contest due to COVID-19 concerns.

In place, AGT: Extreme will be in the 8-10 p.m. time slot for four weeks. This AGT spin off provides a larger stage for the most dangerous AGT acts to date. It will showcase the most outrageous and jaw-dropping performances on an outdoor stage. The Extreme contestants will compete for a chance to win $500,000 prize and the ultimate title of the champion of “America’s Got Talent: Extreme.”

Simon Cowell sits on the AGT: Extreme judging panel alongside X Games Medalist Travis Pastrana and WWE Veteran Nikki Bella. The host of the spin off series is Terry Crews.
