Reading Time: 2 minutes
Tuesday night’s episode of AGT featured the last of the auditions, and revealed judge Julianne Hough’s Golden Buzzer. It went to 12-year-old singer Luke Islam, who performed “She Used to Be Mine” from the Broadway musical Waitress.
Luke’s powerhouse voice and dreams of becoming a star touched more than just Julianne. Plenty of people on Twitter reacted positively to Luke’s performance, including a few people involved with Waitress. Check out some of the best reactions below.
Waitress Cast Reacts To Luke Islam
Sara Bareilles, who wrote the musical’s songs and has also starred in the Broadway production, retweeted Luke’s performance. She wrote that she was “going to be weeping forever and ever” over it.
Luke’s performance also got a response from cast member Jessie Hooker-Bailey, who wrote that the “whole ensemble” was crying over the audition and talking about it over group text. “So moved. We love your heart and that voice!!!!” she wrote.
The official Twitter account for the Waitress musical also tweeted his performance, and pointed out that Luke performed at the show’s karaoke session last year. The account shared video of Luke singing “What Baking Can Do” at the event.
Christine Dwyer, who plays the lead role in the Waitress tour, also shared her thoughts. “Honestly considering quitting and also inconsolably crying,” she wrote.
Is Luke Islam Meant To Be On Broadway?
There were also plenty of AGT viewers who shared their thoughts on Luke’s performance. One particular opinion kept showing up over and over again — that Luke should (and will) be on Broadway.
“If Broadway doesn’t scoop this kid up it would be a big mistake,” wrote one user. Another suggested he should go straight to the Broadway stage rather than even competing on AGT.
Luke Islam Is Going To The Live Shows
“I believe that not only are you going to become a star and get your dream to come true, but I don’t think you need to wait that much longer,” Julianne Hough told Luke before hitting the Golden Buzzer on Tuesday’s show.
That means that Luke is going straight to the live shows. He’ll join other Golden Buzzer acts such as Kodi Lee and Tyler Butler-Figueroa. Hopefully, those involved with Waitress will continue cheering him on as he moves forward.
