Lizzo Is a Superhero in New ‘Special’ Music Video
Lizzo released a new music video for her song “Special” this week, and the clip features her as a hard-working superhero keeping people safe. The song appears on Lizzo’s 2022 album of the same name.
Lizzo Releases New ‘Special’ Music Video
The music video, directed by Christian Breslauer, begins with a shot of Lizzo flying through the air with a cape and a mask. She arrives back home and gets into bed, but her alarm immediately makes her get up for her job at a diner.
Throughout the video, Lizzo saves a little girl from getting hit by a car, stops a woman from getting mugged, thwarts a robbery, and rescues a baby from a burning building. All the while, she sings on the track, “In case nobody told you today / You’re special / In case nobody made you believe / You’re special.”
On Instagram, Lizzo shared voice notes from when she was planning the video back in 2021. She can be heard describing a Black female superhero, adding that the country loves her when she’s a superhero, “but absolutely hates her as a human being.”
As the star wrote in the post’s caption, “This video is for any one who has felt unseen, alone, disrespected. I see you.”
