During Tuesday’s new episode of Canada’s Got Talent Season 2, singer Anica delivered a powerful performance that earned a Golden Buzzer from the show’s host Lindsay Ell. Fans of America’s Got Talent might remember Anica from Season 16.

Singer Anica Earns Canada’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer

Before her audition, Anica opened up about suffering “horrible abuse” as a child. She shared that she lived in nine foster homes, and one foster family gifted her with a guitar. Anica explained how music “helped me make sense of everything I’d been through.”

The singer took the stage with her guitar to perform “Unstoppable” by Sia, showing off a powerful voice that earned a comparison to Janis Joplin from judge Howie Mandel. The performance earned a standing ovation from the judges.

Before the judges had a chance to share their thoughts, Ell walked out from backstage and told Anica, “You have been through so much. And as someone who is a survivor and has also been through so much in her childhood, I know what it is like to go through difficulty and be able to channel it into something like music.”

Ell called Anica “such an inspiration” and proceeded to hit the Golden Buzzer, sending her straight to the Semifinals. Last season, Ell gave the honor to singer Jeanick Fournier, who ended up winning the entire competition.

The Singer Previously Competed on AGT

You might recognize Anica from Season 16 of America’s Got Talent. She auditioned for the show with a cover of “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin. Although Simon Cowell voted “no,” the other three judges sent her through to the next round.

Anica ended up making it to the Quarterfinals, where she sang “River” by Bishop Briggs. Unfortunately, she didn’t earn enough votes to send her to the Semifinals, and she was eliminated from the competition at this point.

We’ll have to keep watching to see how Anica does in the Semifinals. She’ll join fellow Golden Buzzers Geneviève Côté and Conversion, as well as whatever other acts earn the honor later in the season.
