Kelly Clarkson to Miss ‘The Voice’ Tapings — Who Will Replace Her?

Kelly Clarkson will apparently miss at least two upcoming tapings of The Voice Season 29 following the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock earlier this month. A replacement has yet to be announced, but two big names are apparently being considered.
Kelly Clarkson to Miss The Voice Season 29 Tapings
Last month, it was announced that Kelly Clarkson would be returning as a coach on The Voice for Season 29, known as Battle of Champions. According to the U.S. Sun, Clarkson will be absent from upcoming tapings of the show in order to be with her family after the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
“Kelly will not be at the tapings scheduled next week for Thursday and Friday. Production is working on a replacement coach for her now,” a source told the outlet. “Kelsea Ballerini and Miley Cyrus have been considered to fill in, but right now, it’s all still a work in progress.”
Ballerini previously filled in for Clarkson on The Voice when she was absent due to illness in Season 20. The country star later joined the show as a coach in Season 27. Cyrus was previously a coach on the show back in Seasons 11 and 13.

Reba McEntire Has Also Missed Tapings
Reba McEntire, who is a coach on the upcoming Season 28 of The Voice, also reportedly missed recent tapings of the show following Blackstock’s death. McEntire was Blackstock’s stepmother, having previously been married to his father Narvel. It’s unclear if anyone filled in for McEntire on the show.
“Whatever they want, the show will give them. They don’t owe the show anything right now,” the source told the U.S. Sun of Clarkson and McEntire. “But they are being incredibly professional throughout this. As much as one can be during a time like this.”
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock tied the knot in 2013 and welcomed two children together before Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020. Blackstock passed away earlier this month after a three-year battle with cancer. Clarkson has postponed the remaining August dates on her Las Vegas residency.
The Voice Season 28 (featuring McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Michael Bublé) will premiere on NBC September 22. Season 29 (featuring Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend) does not have an official premiere date yet, but it’s expected to kick off in the spring.
