Kelly Clarkson Stole Music Director from Justin Guarini
During an interview with Randy Jackson and Michael Bublé, Clarkson shouted out her music director Jason Halbert, saying he’s the reason she has a career. She went on to share that Halbert was “hired by Randy Jackson to be in my band” back when she won American Idol.
“Actually, he was hired for Justin [Guarini], but I stole him,” Clarkson admitted, explaining that she and Halbert are both Texans, and there should be “no hard feelings.” Halbert plays in Clarkson’s band Y’all, accompanying her in her Kellyoke segments.
Clarkson called Halbert her “musical partner.” They’ve written several songs together, including “Catch My Breath” and “Cry.” Halbert won a Grammy as a record producer for Clarkson’s album Stronger, for which the singer won for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2013.
