Kelly Clarkson kicked off her Chemistry residency in Las Vegas on Friday night. The singer performed to a sold-out crowd at Planet Hollywood’s Bakkt Theater, joking that it feels like she hasn’t done a show “in 9,000 years.”

According to People, the 95-minute concert featured such songs as “Because Of You,” “Since U Been Gone,” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” While performing “Breakaway,” the American Idol winner walked through the crowd.

Clarkson also performed a cover during Friday’s show, singing “As It Was” by Harry Styles. The singer is known for her covers, and she’s even made it a segment on her talk show called Kellyoke.

“We’re gonna go a little Kellyoke every night,” Clarkson said during Friday’s show. “We were supposed to sing this actually on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and then all the strikes happened and nobody has a job now, so we didn’t get to perform it on the show.”

The singer kept things simple, opting against flashy pyro effects or costume changes. She did, however, take the time to chat with the audience about her life — including her divorce and her two kids. They apparently love her song “Broken & Beautiful.”

The Residency Will Run for 10 Shows

Clarkson’s residency is running on various nights until August 19, covering 10 shows total. The singer has told fans that every night on the residency will be different, as she performs newer songs from her latest album Chemistry, as well as past hits.

“We’re trying to make it special for everybody,” she said in an Instagram video. “We’re hitting all the new songs from the album in there somewhere. We’re hitting the ones you want to hear, and if we’re not, then you’re just being demanding because we’re singing a lot of songs.”

Clarkson will be taking the upcoming two seasons off from coaching on The Voice. However, past coaches Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Niall Horan will appear on the panel for Season 24, alongside new coach Reba McEntire.
