To be married during a concert is one thing, to have the Kelly Clarkson as a witness is another. The “Breakaway” singer recently helped a gay couple tie the knot during her Las Vegas concert on Sunday.
Kelly Clarkson Helps Gay Couple Marry During New Year’s Eve Concert
During Clarkson’s Chemistry: An Intimate Evening residency show in Las Vegas, the “Stronger” hitmaker became witness as two lovers got married. An audience luckily recorded the special moment, seeing fans Brian and Marcello mark a milestone alongside their idol.
In the fan-captured video, the couple explained that they’ve been together for 15 years already. Hence, as they elevate the status of their romance, they wish to do so in Clarkson’s presence.
“Oh, it is tonight! With me!” Clarkson excitedly said.
To kick off the short wedding ceremony, an officiant whom the couple brought went towards the singer. Then, the “Since U Been Gone” singer handed him the mic and told him to “say something!”
“By the power of Kelly Clarkson’s show, Las Vegas, New Year’s 2024, I pronounce you both husband and husband,” the officiant said.
Feeling the thrill of what happened, the audience cheered the couple on. Clarkson then shared a hug with the newly married couple and the officiant. Before returning to the stage, the singer wished the newlyweds good luck on their marriage.
Admittedly, it’s exhilarating to see the pop star celebrate a marriage after her grueling separation from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. Last year, Clarkson released her 10th studio album, Chemistry. The music collection came from a “super personal” place as it was written since her divorce.
In September 2023, however, the pop star revealed that she doesn’t want Chemistry to be called a divorce album.
“There’s good stuff on there, like ‘Favorite Kind of High.’ There’s good parts. It wasn’t all bad, so I wanted to celebrate that as a whole,” she said. “For the most part, it’s sad. But that’s how I work through what’s going on with me: through writing.”
Fans Praise Her for Being an LGBTQ Ally
On social media, users have been giving Clarkson positive feedback. Most praises come supporters of the queer community, expressing their appreciation for Clarkson for giving the gay couple a platform to celebrate their love.
“8min into 2024 and Kelly Clarkson just married a gay couple *during* her show in Vegas. We’re off to a good start, y’all!!!” a fan posted on X.
“Kelly always been mother but she mothered EVEN MORE,” another user wrote.
“When you don’t think you can love Kelly anymore [than] you already [do],” one fan commented on YouTube. “She is just what the world should be full of people! Oh god that woman! [She’s] just pure.”
While Clarkson happily celebrated her fans’ wedding, she made it clear that she’s not ready for love yet. In December, the singer shared that she’s doesn’t have plans on finding romance anytime soon.
“I think too that there’s a lot to learn about yourself in a relationship and how you are in a relationship,” she said. “I think I need a little more work on that end of it, I need a little more work on me in a relationship and how to make sure to take care of myself at the same time as somebody else.”
