Kelly Clarkson Says She’s Still Not Ready to Date Again: ‘I Need a Little More Work on Me’

After a grueling divorce, pop megastar Kelly Clarkson admitted she’s not ready to love again. The “Since U Been Gone” hitmaker recently said she “feels powerful” now that she gets to spend time with herself.
Kelly Clarkson Reveals She’s Been Enjoying the Single Life
In an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the music powerhouse interviewed guest Shannen Doherty, who is currently going through a divorce. Amid conversation, Clarkson shared some thoughts on her single life and why she’s not yet prepared for romance again.
“I think too that there’s a lot to learn about yourself in a relationship and how you are in a relationship,” she said. “I think I need a little more work on that end of it, I need a little more work on me in a relationship and how to make sure to take care of myself at the same time as somebody else.”
Clarkson was previously married to Brandon Blackstock, who she shares two children, nine-year-old River Rose and seven-year-old Remy Alexander. In 2020, the American Idol winner filed for divorce, which was finalized two years later.
Reflecting on the difficult time, Clarkson shared how hard a separation can be because “you thought you were going to spend forever with this person.” Be that as it may, the pop singer is proud of how far she’s come since her dark days.
“I love me and I love spending time with me,” she said. “It’s really great. It feels powerful.”
Since becoming single, Clarkson has moved to New York alongside her kids. The “Stronger” is continuously reaping success in her career, and it seems she’s been trying her best to have a good relationship with her body now. Indeed, the single life’s been favorable for the superstar at the moment.
She Prefers “Dog Love” for Now
In the same interview, Doherty shared how the existence of her dogs gives her comfort amid the divorce. This has prompted Clarkson to share that their dogs weren’t allowed to be in bed when she was still married. According to the singer, the former couple’s bed used to be reserved “for fun… that kinda fun.”
“Ever since I’ve been separated now divorced, my dogs have been ruling my bed. I think they would hate the next person who came in,” she said.
With Clarkson not yet ready to find love again, she confesses she prefers “dog love” for now. Following her and Blackstock’s separation, an insider told Hollywood Life that Clarkson is not looking for a new beau.
“Kelly’s friends have been such a huge support system during her divorce from Brandon. All they want is for her to be happy,” they said. “She is still adjusting to her new normal in life and a romantic relationship just isn’t on her radar at the moment.”
